As part of UK Coaching and Volunteering Week, we invited coaches and club members to an Active Thames Inclusion Workshop hosted by Shadwell Basin Outdoor Centre. The workshop brought together organisations from across the sector to explore inclusivity and diversity in outdoor activities.
Drawing on over ten years of expertise from our facilitators, the session focused on planning, delivering, and reviewing strategies to support inclusive participation. Through a practical and experience-sharing approach, attendees had the opportunity to explore inclusive coaching practices in action.
Shadwell Basin showcased how they support young people and adults with disabilities, offering insights into their adaptive methods and specialist equipment.
Coaches were able to try out the equipment, both on land and in water, and ask questions to better understand how to apply similar approaches in their own settings. The session ended with a group reflection, where participants shared key takeaways, discussed common challenges, and identified practical steps they could implement in their own clubs. It was a wholly positive and engaging afternoon, with lots of ideas exchanged and new connections made.
We would like to say a big thank you to Shadwell Basin Outdoor Centre for hosting us. Their commitment to inclusivity and community engagement was evident throughout the day, and we look forward to returning for more events in the future.
We’re proud to support workshops like this, helping to make outdoor activities accessible for all.
