Last week over three days, London Youth Rowing (LYR) hosted their annual ‘Oarsome Challenge’.
With 280 participants from a range of organisations and sectors, the event raised over £70,000 to support LYR's nationwide programmes to get young people active through rowing.
The Oarsome Challenge is run in fixed seat rowing boats; the 16-mile course starts at the Isle of Dogs and finishes at Chiswick Bridge. Crews row through the centre of London, enjoying a unique water level view of the capital and its iconic landmarks.
This year, for the first time, LYR worked in partnership with Great Ormond Street Hospital. LYR CEO, Matt Rostron said:
“We are very proud of what we’ve achieved over the past years with Oarsome Challenge, but that has been topped through our new partnership with Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). Charities will achieve more when they work together, and for LYR, the chance to support the Great GOSH Row is a very exciting development. The relationship will surely be the first of many in the coming years.”
